I have been taking Alexander Technique lessons with Pauline Wetherell for over a year, and would heartily recommend both the Technique itself and Pauline as a teacher. Among her many notable qualities are her patience and kindness - beneficial traits for a teacher in any subject I would say, but especially so with regard to the Alexander Technique, as an integral part of it could be seen as learning to develop patience with and kindness towards oneself. Pauline is exceptional at encouraging and instilling the combination of calmness and attentiveness that engaging with Alexander work entails. My decision to take lessons had to do with both my work as a musician and a more general desire to develop a more productive and less conflicted relationship with my physical self, and I've greatly appreciated Pauline's thoughtfulness and insights with regard to the Technique's potential pertinence to these types of issues and ideas, as well as her skill and subtlety at addressing them through direct hands-on work. I have received great benefit from my lessons with her both as a musical performer and in my general day-to-day life, and look forward to continuing and deepening my engagement with Alexander work.
