Nutrition and Health Coach
Nutrition and health coaching merges the latest scientific findings on nutrition with coaching techniques (motivational interviewing; goal setting; behaviour change strategies; positive reinforcement), to help you find a healthy lifestyle which is suitable for your unique personality, physiology and lifestyle, and is therefore sustainable in the long term.
In the case of a healthy individual, nutrition and health coaching can be used to achieve meaningful yet realistic goals for example:
- to lose or gain a certain amount of weight in a given timeframe;
- to feel less bloated;
- to have more energy;
- to find better sleep;
- to manage stress and life balance;
- to include more variety in one’s diet;
- to eat more healthy foods;
- to eat out less often, etc…
However, a qualified nutrition and health coach can also work in conjunction with a GP or dietician, supporting you with strategies that help you stick with the diet or lifestyle changes prescribed by such GP or dietician.
A nutrition and health coach session starts with a questionnaire concerning your own wellbeing perception, where your main areas of concerns are identified.
From this, coach and client explore your readiness for change for each of such areas of concern, and prioritise your most urgent ones.
Based on this discussion, you are encouraged to set a long term goal, which is then broken down into smaller SMART goals, realistically achievable within 4-8 weeks.
The following sessions can be considered follow-ups of the first one, although it might often be the case that goals need to be reviewed and reassessed.
In between sessions, you are supported with check-in emails, questionnaires, journals and other tools that the coach considers relevant to the goal achievement.
Even though some benefits are experienced from the first session alone, clients with life-changing goals (e.g. losing or gaining a relevant amount weight; quitting processed foods; changing lifestyle, etc.) are encouraged to schedule at least three sessions, to find adequate support for their changes.
A nutrition and health coaching treatment ends when you feel satisfied with the achieved goals and no longer needs support from your coach.
