Hygge (pronounced ‘hYOOgah’) is a Danish word with no direct equivalent in English. It describes a feeling of cosiness and security; the way you feel when enjoying a good meal with your favourite people.

One definition reads “hygge is the absence of anything annoying or emotionally overwhelming; taking pleasure from the presence of gentle, soothing things”.
I think hygge is something we can all benefit from, particularly in the darker winter months.
Here’s some inspiration for you.
Hygge is:
- A flickering candle.
- Warm woolly socks.

- Tea and biscuits after a long walk.
- Saturday afternoon in a cosy pub.
- Listening to your favourite album.
