Did you know that around 1 in 6 UK couples has difficulty conceiving?  Acupuncture is a popular treatment choice to promote natural fertility and as an adjunct to assisted conception and IVF.

Acupuncture is said to work on many aspects of fertility, both in males and females:

Regulating fertility hormones – Acupuncture promotes the release of beta-endorphin, which in turn encourages the release of  other hormones such as gonadotrophin, progesterone and oestrogen.   These hormones are essential for fertility but are often disrupted by a variety of factors including stress

Increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs –   Acupuncture can help inhibit the sympathatic nervous system, leading to imroved blood flow to the ovaries and uterus.  This is thought to enhance the thickness ofthe endometrium and therefore increase the chance of successful embryo implantation.

Counteracting the effects of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) – By reducing sympathetic nerve activity and balancing hormones as described above, acupuncture helps reduce the number of ovarian cysts and regulate the menstrual cycle.

Our acupuncturist, Sally, has a special interest in assisting fertility issues.  If you feel acupuncture could help you, make an appointment by calling 020 8520 5268.
