We’ve all had moments when something inside feels unsettled – a vague tension, an unease we can’t quite name. We might say, “I’m fine… I think,” even though we know something’s stirring beneath the surface.

Focusing offers a gentle, embodied way to meet those unclear feelings — not by analysing them, but by listening to what they’re trying to tell us.

Developed by philosopher and psychotherapist Eugene Gendlin, Focusing is a process of paying attention to the “felt sense” – the body’s subtle way of holding experience before we can put it into words.

By pausing, sensing inwardly, and describing what we notice with curiosity (“something tight in my chest,” “a heaviness in my stomach”), we begin to make space for that part of us to unfold. When it feels acknowledged rather than pushed away, the body often responds with a small shift – a softening, a breath, or a quiet sense of relief.

Focusing isn’t about forcing clarity or fixing emotions; it’s about staying present with what is. In that patient presence, understanding naturally arises. Over time, this practice can bring greater self-trust, emotional balance, and the sense that life feels more aligned from the inside out.

Focusing is a skill that deepens with practice – and, like other gentle therapies, it often works best over a series of sessions. Each session offers a chance to strengthen your inner relationship, learning to meet your feelings with compassion and curiosity rather than judgment.

At Ashlins Natural Health, Focusing sessions offer a confidential, supported space to reconnect with yourself – whether you’re navigating stress, change, or simply wish to understand yourself more deeply.
