From the ancient civilisations of India, China and Japan comes
a belief that good health is dependent on a balance of the mind,
body and spirit. Upsetting this balance can result in sickness.
Holistic massage is a form of body work based on this belief and
focuses on re-balancing the mind, body and spirit of each individual
by finding the underlying causes of any problems as well as treating
the symptoms.
First appointment
During your initial consultation the therapist will gain an understanding
of all the factors concerning your health and lifestyle which
may be affecting your well-being. Then, by means of a physical
assessment, the therapist will be able to establish the most appropriate
treatment for you. During assessment and massage you will be required
to remove any clothes from the area of the body which is being
treated and, whilst lying on a massage couch, grapeseed oil will
be used to aid physical manipulation and passive stretches of
the body. Your therapist will conclude with an overall assessment
and discuss with you a course of suitable treatment.
Personal programme
Subsequent appointments will consist of a brief consultation,
continual assessment and massage. You will also be given a personal
programme which might concentrate on relaxation or breathing techniques.
It may also consist of stretches and exercises or it might focus
on your awareness of posture, nutrition or energy flow.
Self-awareness
Holistic massage encourages self-exploration, self-awareness and
an expansion of consciousness, allowing the receiver to take an
active part in the course of a treatment and responsibility for
her/his own health. It can improve posture, circulation, flexibility,
mobility, hormone balance and energy flow. It can aid digestion,
lymph drainage, muscular tension and muscular tone and can also
help with some stress related disorders and some skin conditions.
